Educated in general surgery Sven Olerud specialised in fracture treatment. Author of several papers in experimental as well as in the clinical field especially regarding the use of internal and external fixators Sven Olerud became a leading expert in Sweden in the 70's and 80's. Sven Olerud held the position as professor in general surgery in Bergen, Norway 1973 to 1975, became professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. In 1980 Sven Olerud was appointed professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Uppsala University, a position he held until his retirement 1989.
During this period Professor Olerud devoted his interest to the fractures of the spine. One of his experiences was that a new spinal instrumentation was required which combined simplicity, efficiency and stability. This led forward to development of a new spinal device the Posterior Fixator.
He also designed the Olerud cervical system aimed at fusions in the cervical spine.
In 2001 the Olerud products were purchased by Anatomica. The products are constantly beeing developed further by Anatomica.
